The county supervisors accepted the recommendation from the compensation board to increase the salaries of county elected officials except themselves by 3 percent, and awarded themselves a 2 percent pay increase.
The pay increases, which were worded in a single motion, were approved at the supervisors’ Jan. 30 meeting. Supervisor Tom Contner voted against the motion. Contner has gone on record saying the supervisors do not need any pay increase.
The 3 percent increase changes salaries as follows: attorney, from $81,106 to $83,539; auditor, from $50,751 to $52,274; recorder, from $49,819 to $51,314; sheriff, from $65,572 to $67,539; and treasurer, from $50,293 to $52,451.
For each of the five supervisors, the 2 percent increase takes their salary from $25,818 to $26,334. The lesser pay increase saves the county a total of $1,295 in gross salaries, compared to a 3 percent raise. There will also be savings associated with payroll taxes.
The pay increases are effective July 1.
Greene County elected officials received 3 percent pay increases in 2013, 2012, 2010 and 2009, and a 2 percent increase in 2011.
